This hand is so rare that witnessing such a situation becomes an unforgettable moment, forever etched in the minds of the grinders at the table.

Poker sometimes loves to defy all logic. Last Saturday, a cash game table delivered one of the rarest scenarios the game can produce in Quebec.

When the worst beat becomes the biggest payday

On Saturday night at Casino du Lac-Leamy, located in Gatineau in the Outaouais region of Quebec, a single poker hand turned into an extraordinary moment. At a seven-handed table, an almost unbelievable setup triggered the legendary Bad Beat Jackpot, also known as the “heartbreak hand.”

The prize pool, which had climbed to nearly $1.4 million, was instantly released, showering the entire table with payouts. In this one-of-a-kind spot, one player believed he was holding one of the strongest hands imaginable: quad aces, an extremely rare combination. But poker sometimes delivers cruel… and very profitable… irony.

Up against those quads, an opponent revealed a royal flush, the best hand possible, sealing the fate of the quad aces. Paradoxically, it’s precisely that loss that unlocked the jackpot. Under Bad Beat rules, the player who loses with an exceptionally strong hand receives the largest share of the payout.

The result: more than $570,000 for the player holding quad aces. The winner of the hand with the royal flush didn’t walk away empty-handed either, banking around $258,000. The five other players at the table each received close to $57,000, simply for being part of the moment.

Celebration erupted immediately in the poker room, because a hand like this sits at the absolute edge of probability. A former dealer from the casino points out that this kind of configuration only happens after hundreds of thousands of hands, with a small portion of each pot feeding the jackpot until a scenario like this finally hits.

Notably, this isn’t an isolated case. Over the past few months, multiple Bad Beat Jackpots have already been triggered at the venue, including a record payout of $2.5 million earlier this year.

Between poker jackpots and massive slot wins, Casino du Lac-Leamy appears to be riding an exceptional hot streak, reinforcing its reputation as one of Quebec’s premier gaming destinations.
