Adrián Mateos, member of Team Pro Winamax, now mentioned alongside giants such as Carlos Alcaraz, Lamine Yamal, Léon Marchand and Jannik Sinner. A resounding and historic entry into MARCA’s Top 100 Athletes!

For the first time, poker crosses a symbolic boundary in the Iberian sports landscape. By including Adrián Mateos in its annual ranking, MARCA is sending a clear message: the discipline deserves its place among the major sports.

MARCA's decision marks a historic turning point for poker, now regarded as a fully fledged sport. Adrián Mateos, a five-time world champion at just 30 years old, joins a list usually reserved for global sporting icons. His achievement — becoming the youngest player ever to win five WSOP bracelets in No-Limit Hold’em — puts him on the same level as athletes like Carlos Alcaraz, Lamine Yamal, Léon Marchand or Aleksandr Ovechkin. In the “Best Achievement of the Year” category, he faces formidable opponents, from extreme mountaineer Kilian Jornet to NHL record goalscorer Ovechkin.

For Mateos, this recognition is an honour and a powerful signal for the younger generations, who are increasingly discovering poker as a demanding mind sport. With more than $54 million in live tournament winnings and three stints as world number one, the Spaniard stands out as one of the greatest players in history. The final results of “Los 100 del deporte” will be revealed on December 29 in a live stream on MARCA’s YouTube channel.
